Review between friends: How a child size soft shampoo brush helped my dog with sensitive skin.
If you have a smaller dog, or, a cat..get one!
Hi! Welcome to Everything Cats & Dogs, where we talk about, well..everything cats and dogs.
Without further ado, let’s get into it, paws up!
It’s springtime here in the USA. With that, comes allergy and coat blowing (massive seasonal coat shedding) season for my Baby Girl Dog. She gets allergy symptoms every spring, without fail.
Well..this year has been particularly vicious with pollen and coat blowing for Baby Girl Dog. The issue with Baby Girl Dog specifically, is that she has extra sensitive skin this time of year, so simply taking a wire slicker brush to her coat to brush out the worst of the pollen and shedding fur, is just too much for her skin. The trick then became ‘what could I use instead’. Because Baby Girl was miserable.
I used to be a cat and dog groomer, so I dug into my supply of nifty tools, only to discover that most of what I had handy, was simply too big to be used on her and her feline fur siblings. Oops! What was I going to do?
I was pretty sure I was going to have to make a trip to the pet supply store at the very least, when..
Enter..a fortuitous trip to the dollar store.
While I was wandering in the aisles to see what was what, I stumbled across a small massaging shampoo brush that was meant for kids. And the wheels in my head began to turn..
For a buck and a quarter? I’d take the chance on how well or not, it worked with the pets. There was always the pet supply store on the other side of town, should all else fail. Or mail order. Either way.
Got the massaging shampoo brush home and out of the box. It being a little lavender colored heart shaped number, it’s actually kind of cute to begin with, and it measures about 2.5 inches on either side, to add to the ‘cute’ factor, and the ‘ease of handling’ factor, too. I let Baby girl Dog sniff it first, to start to get used to the idea. So far, so good.
Then, ever so slowly, I started to brush her with it, to loosen up some of the dead fur and flaky skin, and brush it out.
Success! She loved it! And her skin didn’t turn that bright angry red that said ‘hot spots will be arriving later’ ! And I got enough dead fur out of her coat to make it all worthwhile.
So, yes, I recommend this. If you’ve got a smaller short haired pet with sensitive skin, this might be just the thing you’re looking for.
Hope this helps!
Deb
Great idea, thank you!
That might work for our dachshunds
